Gene Carson
was born in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1922
He joined the Marine Corps after
graduating high school in June,
1942. Mr. Carson’s service record
includes the battles for Saipan, Tinian,
and Iwo Jima, with the Marine 5th
Amphibious Corps. Gene Carson returned
to his hometown in January, 1946 and
started a thirty-year career with a
gauge manufacturing firm. He also played
seven years of semi-pro baseball in most
of Iowa's major cities. Mr. Carson’s
writing career started at the age of 70
when he began writing poetry From there
he started writing short stories and
then later wrote his first novel Friends
by Chance, Brothers by Choice. Gene
Carson married his high school sweetheart
at Camp Elliott, San Diego, California,
on August 5, 1943 and raised four
children.
