The Right Way to Market Your Book
|
One of the great levels of
service that Truesource Publishing provides is
helping an author find a literary agent or PR
specialist or business. The agent at Truesource
is not the typical literary agent that you would
see in the industry, they are not just people
who get a book deal and negotiate a contract for
you. A typical literary agent has always been
somebody that finds authors and helps them get a
book deal. That’s fine if they only thing you
are doing is just trying to get a book deal, but
authors need much more than that if they are
going to be successful in this industry. An
agent with Truesource Publishing is an agent,
publicist, and business manager working on the
author’s behalf beyond just getting a book deal.
They are there to represent you as an author in
all your endeavors and help you market your
book. The agents that work with us are called
Book Reps and they go beyond the normal range of
service for you as an author.

When you publish a book with Truesource
Publishing we will help you find a Book Reps to
help you with your book. We generally ask the
author to help us find someone that they already
know and have a good business relationship with
that can represent them and someone that resides
in the same area as the area so business can be
conducted on a personal level. Even if they do
not have a lot of experience at this kind of job
we can always train an agent to work with us on
your behalf. Now if an author does not have
someone that can be their agent then Truesource
Publishing will assign somebody to represent the
author. The most important level service we can
give an author is finding someone represent them
and their book, but remember we are not looking
for the typical literary agent for you.

Now an agent or Book Rep with Truesource
Publishing will always do more than the normal
literary agent work in the industry. An agent is
your publicist, your contract
negotiator, marketing representative, and a
general business manager. They will be a vital
instrument in your success as an author through
marketing and getting you appearances as an
author like book signings. For these services,
agents will make 10% of the author’s profits. Now
depending on the success you accomplish for your
client there are also bonuses involved when you
reach certain sales levels- you can make up to
15% of what your client makes from book sales,
appearances, and any other work you client does
where they are getting paid. This is determined
specifically in your contract, but the standard
is when 10,000 in book sales have been reached
that the percentage will increase. This job can
be a full time or part time job. All Book Reps
work in the division of Truesource Marketing-the
marketing firm that handles all marketing and
public relations for Truesource Media.

Authors need
to understand if a is representing you the
commissions for your agent will come from the
profits of your books being sold as well as
merchandise and public appearances. This is
because your agent is representing you on your
behalf. An agent of representation for the use
of marketing and advertising services and all
that it entails will receive 10% of the author’s
profits. If there is a bonus where the Book Rep
will make 15% of the profits then the extra 5%
will come from Truesource Publishing . This is
included in the book contract. The services of a
Book Rep can be negotiable and details of the
agent of representation does will be outlined in
the contract. If there is an event or deal where
an author will make a profit based on their book
being published with Truesource Publishing and
the book is used to promote that event other
regular book sales the agent fee still applies,
but out of the 10%, 5% will go to Truesource
Publishing as compensation for using our
resources to make that event or deal possible
(if its 15% then Truesource Publishing will
still receive 5%).
